Explore // Terlingua Ghost Town

Our last stop before we drove into Big Bend, was Terlingua. I heard it was a little ghost town, but really had no idea what to expect. It was definitely worth the couple of hours we spend exploring. And while it IS a ghost town, there are definitely some locals. They all seemed to hang out near The Starlight Theater. It wasn't open as we were there in between lunch and dinner time - but from the smell of it, it was good. I would definitely stop there for dinner if in the area.

We kept wondering - who would actually WANT to live way out here, in the middle of nowhere? But, people do. It was fascinating to walk through the ruins of what once was a hoppin' little town. They were working on restoring the old church, which the kids had a lot of fun exploring. They turned it into a stage and started singing! Yes, definitely an interesting place. I suppose you could say Terlingua is pretty HIP - for a ghost town. We walked around and explored, then went into the Trading Co. for a snack and to let the kids pick out a tiny souvenir (they each chose a stone to wear around their neck).

This is basically the last of "civilization" before entering Big Bend National Park - so definitely fill your gas tank...and then get ready for a gorgeous drive as you enter the park. The Mountains are Calling!
